▼わて、わい
I guess these words aren’t very popular as daily Japanese these days, but you might hear them in the Kansai area.
わい is used as internet slang and you can often see it in this situation.
▼うち
Women in the Kansai area use this word.
According to a study, young women are more likely to use this word and they come to use わたし after they mature. This is because, in a sense, using “watashi” is an acceptance of becoming an “adult woman” who can be loved by a man.
Actually, I don’t really agree with that, but I find it interesting.
▼自分
Both men and women use this word. Those who use it seem to be considerd as decent and honest people.
It is also likely to be used by people who have been in a hierarchical and strict environment for a long time.
However, it’s said that you shouldn’t use it in a job interview because it’s casual.
Advanced Tips
In the Kansai area, 自分 means ‘you’, not ‘me’.
I think it confuses people.
In fact, I got surprised when I had moved to Kyoto for university and heard that.
That might be one of the reasons why you shouldn’t use 自分 in a job interview.
